PacMan and Mario!

 Happy Birthday, Eddie!

You know how much I love the 80s!  This was a quick 80s cake that I threw together for Eddie's 40th Birthday. The entire party was a lot of fun from 80s music, to NES games, and a complete 80s candy bar!  This cake was a basic chocolate cake with creamy chocolate icing. The fondant decorations were simple and free handed to save on time. A special thank you to my sweetheart for keeping me company and helping me assemble the cake!

Diesel 10 Cake

Choo Choo!

Yet another fun kid's cake.  I love the opportunity to make little one's birthday cakes for a couple of reasons.  First, it is just such a blessing to be part of such a milestone in a kid's life.  Second, I get to act like a kid and no one judges me :o)

And here is a close-up of his face:

New York, New York!

New York, New York!

I absolutely love this cake!  The cheesecake is the best part!  The glisten of the cherries was done with piping gel, the rest of the decorations are fondant/gum paste. I hope this was a great cake for Kevin to celebrate his birthday and what a fun opportunity for me!

May Wedding :: Pinwheels, Persimmon, and Pearls

Congratulations Valerie!
Being able to share in someone's wedding is always a blessing. And while each bride has her own beautiful theme and colors--sometimes it can be hard to bring all of those aspects together on a cake. Between Sara and I we were able to pull a cake together including the bride's colors, pinwheels, branches, and pearls.  I love the final product and the bride thought it was "perfect."  I couldn't have asked for a better compliment.
To make the pinwheels we mixed some tylose powder with the fondant to make it more of a gumpaste consistency.  Let the fondant sit (covered) for about 30 minutes, then roll out to 1/8 inch and form into a pinwheel as usual!

Happy baking!

Nike Cav IV Cake

Happy Birthday Joe!

I love getting unusual cake orders, and while I have made a shoe before I didn't have the pressure of making a replica of a specific shoe.  This is the Nike Cav IV shoe on the shoe box.  I think it turned out pretty good!

Guitar Cake!

Congratulations, Preston!
This cake is for a young man that is graduating high school and attending Alabama next year (Roll Tide, y'all). I am told he is quite the guitar player and very excited about Alabama. This is a white almond sour cream cake with strawberry filling and almond buttercream. The decorations are done in fondant and the silver accents are done with luster dust.

Before I start any shaped cake like this I make a template out of newspaper.  This helps me to get the size and shape right before I start carving the cake and it makes carving the cake go much faster.  If you are just filling with buttercream then fill between the layers, freeze, and then carve. If you are filling the cake, like I was in this situation, carve the layers first, make a buttercream dam, fill, place the second layer on top, and dirty ice the cake.  Here is a pic of the cake during assembly:

 Until next time, Happy Baking!
